There are many theories on personality, and most are in some way based on ? or related to - the work of Carl Jung. There are both Type and Trait theories; trait personality questionnaires are useful in selection and recruitment as they can be more readily mapped to job requirements, whilst the type models are useful in personal and team development, as the type categories are helpful in understanding oneself and others.
